The Importance of Emotional Health

The Importance of Emotional Health, HOO Happiness Blog

Let’s have a serious conversation about emotional wellness! When we are emotionally unwell our body responds to that.  Our bodies respond to everything that happens in our lives… we think, feel, act and situations that happen. When we are stressed, anxious, or upset, our body reacts to tell us something isn't right.  Maybe our heart beats a little bit faster, you start to get sweaty, your hand starts to shake or maybe you go into a full blown panic attack.  How we respond in any given situation is unique to us but how our body responds to emotions can oddly be the same.

How can negative emotions effect your health?

  • *  Raises blood pressure

  • *  Weaken body’s immune system

  • *  Avoidance (choose not to work out, poor eating choices, increased pharmaceuticals)

  • *  Abuse of alcohol or drugs

  • *  Body reactions (back pain, stomach issues, headaches, insomnia etc..)

When our emotions are unbalanced it starts to take on a life of its own and starts causing chaos in other places in the body!We start to not only feel emotionally unwell but physically unwell too.So it is important for us to understand what we are feeling and address it as soon as we can!

Ways to improve your emotional health:

  • *  Release and express your feelings as soon as they come up (running, journalling, relaxing etc)

  • *  Ask for help

  • *  Vent to a family member or a friend

  • *  Calm your body and your mind (meditation, yoga)

  • *  Make health a priority (eat clean, sleep well, no alcohol or drug etc)

  • *  Use essential oils to manage mood

Managing my own emotions:

I am feeling a little off the tracks today.I did not sleep very well.  I had a disagreement with a loved one yesterday. My emotions are running high.I have a lot of things on the calendar as well as a lot of action items to accomplish so add overwhelm on top of everything else.I am not myself today. My heart is beating rapidly.  I have absolutely no appetite.  I am anxious.  And I cannot focus at all.

Steps I take to balance my emotions:

  1. Brain dump

  2. Increase water

  3. Delete my schedule

  4. Scan + apply essential oils

  5. Express my hurt feelings in a calm rational way

Why Use Essential oils for Emotional Health:

The use of essential oils may assist, sometimes greatly, with particular emotional issues and emotional states. Additionally, the proper use of essential oils may enhance your emotional outlook and provide support and help balance your emotions during the day.Essential oils are comprised of naturally occurring chemicals that work in synergy with one another. Because essential oils evaporate quickly (known as being "volatile"), their molecules are easily inhaled. The inhalation of these naturally occurring synergistic chemicals provide triggers to our brain. These triggers effect our emotions. Inhalation of these wondrous molecules also provides physical benefit which may also work together to aid in our emotional state. (source found here)

The Emotional Brain Responds Only to Smell

The area of the brain known as the amygdala plays a major role in storing and releasing emotional trauma. The only way to stimulate this gland is with fragrance or through the sense of smell. In other words - the emotional brain responds only to smell and not to words that are read, spoken, heard, or felt by Braille. Our sense of smell links directly to emotional states and behaviors often stored since childhood.Smell is the only one of the five physical senses that is directly linked to the limbic lobe of the brain - our emotional control center. Anxiety, depression, fear, anger, and joy all physically originate from this region. A certain fragrance can evoke memories and emotions before we are even consciously aware of it. When smells are concerned, we react first and think later. All other physical senses are routed through the thalamus, which acts as the switchboard for the brain, passing stimuli onto the cerebral cortex (the conscious thought center) and other parts of the brain.Essential oils enable us to access stored or forgotten memories and suppressed emotions so that we can acknowledge and integrate or release them. The word “emotions” can translate as “energy-in-motion.” Emotion is the experience of energy moving though our bodies. This emotional energy actually works at higher speed than thought. Thought and images can take seconds or minutes to evoke a memory while an aroma can evoke a memory in milliseconds.Forgotten memories and suppressed emotions can wreak havoc in our lives; often being the unsourced causes of depression, anxiety and fears. Essential oils can help us surface and release these emotions wherever they are stored in the body or energy field.I’ve found that essential oils affect our minds, emotions and bodies most profoundly when we invite essential oils to become a part of our daily practice. Scanning for essential oils:

Because of how I was feeling, I decided l would use my iTovi scanner and see what oils I am needing right now.

For me, I think of doing a scan like jump starting my car.  When you remove the guess work and the trial and error of using oils to support you emotionally then you are able to return to a more normal state faster.

I am all about saving time, maximizing my resources and getting right down to what I need to be doing.

What is an iTovi scanner?

Here is a super simple explanation of how the scanner works:

Every single essential oil vibrates on a certain and unique frequency.  These frequencies have been studied and recorded in relation to the bio points on our body.  Through the electrodes on the iTOVi scanner, these frequencies are sent to the body, and it is how your body responds to these frequencies that we learn what you are reacting to and therefore the essential oils that you are in immediate need of!
