Goals, Gifts, Gratitude & Fresh Starts

I am sure you do as well.

I think the Universe works to bring forth our deepest desires.

There is a huge energy shift happening and it is taking those who are on track for a really wild ride.

The only question is - are you ready?

I believe with all my heart that could be YOUR BEST YEAR YET.

But we have to help the Universe along.

Are you prepared?

Have you made a plan?

Written out your goals?

Plotted what you want to attack and achieve?

If not then maybe this post will help.

It is all about writing, crafting and re-reading your goals.

Giving yourself gifts that light you up and filling your heart with gratitude.

I truly believe this equation will make it one heck of a year - and maybe even....your best year to date!

Less than 3 percent of Americans have written goals, and less than 1 percent review and rewrite their goals on a daily basis.
Brian Tracy

92 percent of people who set goals never actually achieve them.

How to become the 8%

.  They are by far my favourite.  I have adapted the structure but not the guts!

SMART Goal Setting Strategy:

I learned this from a widely success Business Coach and Mentor: Michael Hyatt

  1. Write your goals down

  2. Focus on all areas of your life: health, fitness, family, relationships and career

  3. Have no more than 5-7 goals

  4. Be specific - very very specific (not lose weight - but lose 10lbs)

  5. Make them measurable - what gets measured gets improved

  6. Make deadlines for when the goal is to be completed

  7. Keep them visible and review daily

  8. Push outside of your comfort zone - stretch and expand - you know you have chose the right thing if fear and doubt are something you experience

  9. Make them compelling. They need to motivate you. Must be emotionally energizing, spiritually connecting, intellectually stimulations or physically challenging.

  10. Identify the next action. Or be as detailed as you can. Break each goal down into the next two manageable steps

Setting goals is easy.

What is hard is keeping them going.

Momentum is a funny thing.

When we slow it down or stop it all together it takes so much energy to get it going again that most people quit.

When you are goal planning I want you to think of ways that you can maintain that momentum.

To keep going.

To push through on those really hard days!

And I may just have the thing for you!

Give yourself a gift or reward whenever you reach a certain milestone.

Celebrate how far you have come or even the fact that you started with a system to keep you moving along.

Here are a few of my goals and what the gift/reward looks like:

  1. Go to the gym every morning Monday - Friday.* New workout outfit for every month completed without a day missed (except due to illness)

  2. Eat vegetarian 100% of my meals and vegan 75% of the time.* Purchase a new piece of jewelry with money saved from not eating meat ;-)

  3. Increase my income by 20% before March 31st and another 20% by July 31st.* I am leaving on a Jet Plane. Destination unknown. Date unknown. But travel is in my future ;-)

See what I mean?

The gifts you give yourself along the way to celebrate what you have done are like the carrot dangling in front of the rabbit.  Keeps you moving.  Keeps you going.  And keeps you in line for the full year and not just for the first few weeks. The gift/reward system needs to be designed for you.  What lights you up.  What are rewards that are within your limits and get you really excited.  Those are what you should be setting up for yourself.Feeling Stumped?

I have learned a lot about Gratitude these last few months.

I knew that in life I had to be thankful.

I knew that I had so much more than many.

But what I didn't know was how to be thankful.

And how often.

Maybe it sounds like a no brainer to you - but it wasn't to me.I had a bath the other day.  It was something so small.  So insignificant.  But while I was in the tub.  Soaking in my steaming hot water filled up to my next.  The scent of Lavender lingering in my nose.  I realized how lucky I was.  I am sure I do not even want to start googling how many people in the world not only do not have clean drinking water but do not have the privilege of having a hot bath whenever they want.My life may not seem prestigious.  Or even glamorous by the eyes of many.  But the more I count my blessings and run through my thanks - the more I see just how much I have.

So I challenge you to fill your Year with Gratitude.  Not just once in a while - but daily.  Write 10 things every single day that you are thankful for.

It does not matter if they are the same 10 things or if they change.  But physically get out a pen and paper and write a list of the things that you are thankful for.

10 things that I am grateful for everyday:

  1. My son Cayden - the depth and width of my love for him could never be measured, gathered or sourced. It is long, wide and infinite. I thank my lucky stars every single day for him.

  2. My husband who works so hard to provide for our family. He does it so we have all the things that we need, lots that we don't but also so I can continue to work on my dream and passion.

  3. My family - their endless support, constant messages, weekly skype calls and love notes keep me grounded, sane and fill my soul with so much love.

  4. My friends - best friends - friendships are hard work - even for those who live in the same city. No add an ocean in between, super expensive travel and a 6 hour time change. The friendships I still have in my life show me just how valuable they have always been. I have friends that set alarm clocks to wake up early to talk to me. Re-arrange entire mornings and meetings so they can spend 10 minutes on skype with me. Friends are family you choose and I have chosen wisely!

  5. My 5 senses and all of my working limbs - I truly have no idea what it means to be sick and I am so thankful to have a functioning body that gives me more than I can feel and see.

  6. Lifes necessities - I have a roof over my head, food in the fridge, water running from the tap, clothes on my back, hydro and gas. I have more than many and it is a gift that does not go unnoticed.

  7. The extras - I have a laptop I work from, and iPhone I message from and a thousand other gadgets, gizmos and "things" that came so easily and beautifully into my life.

  8. My ability to run my own schedule, make my own plans and create my own future. I am in charge of my life and how I care for it. How many other people can say that?

  9. My essential oils and international business - they saved my heart and pulled me out of a really dark place. They gave me more hope and more reason and a vision much bigger than I ever dreamed.

  10. You! You are reading this and I want you to know how much that means to me. For someone to read the words we write means they take a tiny peak behind the curtain and into the shadows. Thank you for your support. For your kindness and for coming here without judgement. It means more to me than I could ever put into words.

When we fill our hearts with what is beautiful and amazing we start to see new things.

We start to see new colours.

Meet new people.

Gain new experiences.

We learn just how little we have seen and how much more there is to know.

And our heart starts to grow three sizes bigger - every day.

I promise you that if you give Gratitude a chance every single day you will welcome so much more into your life!
